Background

Over the years the term “Low Cost Automation” (LCA) has evolved and its relevance and context has changed a lot. Traditionally, any material handling automation that used simple frugal “homegrown” solutions that did not use power or costly capital investment were termed as LCA. The scope of automation today transcends well beyond just Material handling right up to Industry 4.0 implementation. The economics has also changed a lot as electronic devices and even Robots have become much cheaper in relative terms and there are much cheaper local system integration startups available now.
